During your complimentary consultation, the area to be treated will be assessed, inclusive of expected results and pre-treatment protocols. Additionally, your individual concerns and questions will also be addressed during the consultation.
A patch test will be conducted on the area to be treated. Pre-treatment, all surface hair is removed by shaving or snipping to prevent damage to the skin.
During the laser / light hair removal procedure, the laser / light will emit an infrared laser light that will be absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser / light generated heat in the hair shaft, which will diffuse to the stem cell and matrix targets, will cause the hair growth to cease.
Stages in the “Growth Cycle” of Hair
There are three stages in the “Growth Cycle” of hair that are important to understand so you are not disappointed with your overall results.
- Stage 1: Anagen (also known as the “Active Stage”)
- Stage 2: Catagen (also known as “Regression”)
- Stage 3: Telogen (also known as the “Resting Stage”)
To achieve permanent hair reduction results, ideally, the hair follicle should be treated by laser / light during the “Anagen – Active Stage” of hair growth.
Hair removal targets hair follicles of different depths and sizes for maximum hair removal effectiveness.
How it works
Using laser / light, hairs are targeted at different depths and non-sequentially removed. Continuous contact cooling ensures comfort throughout treatment. Sensation during treatment has been described as elastic-band snapping against the skin or needle-prick along with a warm and tingling sensation across the area being treated. Overall, procedures are generally well tolerated with no use of numbing agents or topical anesthetics.
Expected Results
Since hair growth occurs in different stages and approximately only 15-25% of hairs are in this active growth stage at the same time, a series of 4-6 treatments are generally needed to achieve best results.
